School Family Engagement Opportunities throughout the 2024-2025 School Year

August 22, 2024 – Open House – Families are invited to visit their child’s classroom and meet the teachers and staff at the school building.

September 12, 2024 – Back to School Night – Families meet grade level teams and receive information about the school year and instructional focus areas.  

September 20, 2024 – Welcome Back Picnic – A fun evening of activities and food;  a chance to meet other families and staff in a welcoming and casual environment; make crafts and take home free books.

September 30, 2024 – Family Chat – Preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences; common questions and topics covered, how to communicate with teachers about student concerns

October 10-11, 2024- Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences – Families meet 1-to-1 with the teacher to discuss child’s learning.

October 25, 2024 – Fall Fest Costume Dance – A fun PTA-sponsored event with snacks, music, and a costume contest; a chance to meet other families and staff in a welcoming and casual environment. (A costume exchange was held one week prior to support participation.)

November 13, 2024 – Family Chat – Understanding Your Child’s Progress Report; how standards-based grading supports student progress; and how to view the report card in ParentVUE.

November 19, 2024 – Attendance Matters Evening Chat – Families learn how school attendance is tracked and measured and how attendance patterns affect student learning outcomes

January 13, 2025 – Attendance Matters Morning Chat – Families learn how school attendance is tracked and measured and how attendance patterns affect student learning outcomes

January 23, 2025 – Fee Reduction Night – Arlington’s Department of Parks and Recreation offered parents the opportunity to enroll for reduced priced programming, including summer camps; held at Arlington Mill Community Center

February 6, 2025 – Attendance Matters Check-In – Support for families to problem-solve attendance issues and reflect on how school attendance affecting their students’ learning outcomes

February 11, 2025 – Title I Night and Academic Expo – Learn about Title I and give input on our School-Family Partnership Principles; Meet with teachers and other families in your grade level to learn a take-home activity that supports your students’ learning (POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER, occurred February 25, 2025)

March 13-14, 2025 – Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences – Families meet 1-to-1 with the teacher to discuss child’s learning.

March 26, 2025 – Family Chat – Understanding Your Child’s Progress Report; how standards-based grading supports student progress; and how to view the report card in ParentVUE.

April 1, 2025 – Fire Safety Night – PTA-sponsored event, families receive smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, training in how to install and maintain them, and general guidelines for fire safety in the home

April 7, 2025 – Family Library Night – “Stop in for Stories” at the Glencarlyn neighborhood library; with, book read-alouds, activtities, and support to register for an Arlington County Library card.

May 2, 2025 – International Night – Celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our school community with the chance to sample foods and take part in traditional activities and dances.
