I am originally from Sri Lanka which is in South Asia. My favorite city is Paris because I grew up there when I was a teenager; thus, I speak French. I love traveling and exploring other states, cultures, and customs: I have traveled to 18 countries thus far, and I cannot wait to discover and explore many more countries. I have lived in four different countries and three different continents and hope to live in few more countries in the future. Virginia is the sixth State I have lived in thus far, and I have come to love this State, especially Arlington. I have one sister who lives in California. I enjoy cooking, going to museums, creating art, photography nature, finding new Farmer’s Markets on Saturdays, discovering small quaint American cities, and most of all trying various cuisines at different restaurants throughout the DC and Virginia areas. I enjoy eating Thai and Middle Eastern food the most. A recent fun fact about me is that I wear a hat every day whether they are a fancy one or a baseball cap.

Darlene Garretson
EL Instructional Assistant
I am from the Pacific Island nation of the Republic of Palau in Micronesia. Being the oldest of six siblings trained me early to thrive in the elementary education field. I attended elementary school in a Roman Catholic private parochial school and continued on through college in San Diego, California. I began my employment with APS as a substitute instruction assistant in July 2014 and have been in my present employment at Carlin Springs Elementary since 2016.
